FMCSA, together with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and state police, ran an overnight enforcement operation on Saturday, September 26, dubbed 'Operation Saturday Night Fever', inspecting 552 commercial vehicles across four states.
As a result, 78 drivers were placed out of service immediately following the inspections, the agency confirmed. The operation targeted commercial vehicles during overnight hours, when inspector presence is historically lower.
These surprise operations add to routine blitzes like International Roadcheck, but differ in that they happen without prior notice and at night, aiming to catch violations that usually go unnoticed.
If you drive overnight, check your ELD logs, lights, tires and paperwork before every shift. An operation like this can pull your truck out of service with no warning and hit your week's paycheck.
